UNT in the News

Telling our story

The University of North Texas is in the news nearly every day of the year. Wide-ranging coverage is a reasonable expectation for the largest and most comprehensive university in the Dallas-Fort Worth/North Texas region — the single largest population center in Texas. Look around in the media and you will see everything from UNT event listings and stories in local newspapers to UNT-connected feature stories in national magazines and UNT faces and voices on local and national newscasts.

Positive stories in the media (broadcast, electronic, and print) that project a favorable image of UNT to the general public almost never result from chance or good luck. They come from carefully cultivated efforts to build and maintain relationships based on reliable communications, mutual respect and trust with reporters and editors from the local, regional and national media.

To give you an understanding of how UNT makes it into the news, and how you can feel at ease when the media spotlight is on you, the UNT News Service has assembled this web site. We hope it will answer some of your basic questions.

Why promote our news?

Your work is an integral part of UNT's mission of teaching, research and public service. Because UNT is a public institution, we all have a responsibility to let the public know what we are doing to fulfill our mission — in other words, to tell our story.

In addition, the news media play an important role in building understanding and appreciation for UNT among constituents vital to the future success of the university and the UNT System. These constituents include our alumni, present and future students and their families, current and potential friends of the university, government officials, fellow UNT faculty and staff, the tax-paying public, and colleagues at other institutions.
