Kathleen B. Cooper, Dean of College of Business Administration

Dr. Cooper serves as dean for the College of Business Administration. She was appointed to this position in October of 2005. She holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and a master’s degree in economics from the University of Texas at Arlington and a doctorate in economics from the University of Colorado.

Dr. Cooper comes to UNT from the U.S. Department of Commerce where she served as Under Secretary for Economic Affairs, the principal economic adviser to Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez. Before government service, Dr. Cooper served as Chief Economist with the Exxon Mobil Corporation as well as Economics and Energy Division Manager in its Corporate Planning Department. Before joining Exxon Mobil in 1990, Dr. Cooper was Executive Vice President and Chief Economist of Security Pacific National Bank in Los Angeles. Dr. Cooper began her career as the Corporate Economist and then Chief Economist of the United Banks of Colorado, lecturing part-time for one year on economics and statistics at the University of Colorado at Denver.

Dr. Cooper was Vice Chairman of the National Bureau of Economic Research, which is known for its scholarly research and for dating business cycles and recessions. She served as president of the National Association of Business Economists, chairman of the American Bankers Association’s Economic Advisory Committee, a trustee of the Committee for Economic Development and the American Council for Capital Formation, and president of the US Association for Energy Economics where she remains involved as a senior fellow.

Mary Thibodeaux, Associate Dean for Academic Services

Dr. Thibodeaux serves as a professor of management as well as the associate dean of student services for the College of Business Administration. She has worked at UNT since 1976 and previously taught at Grambling State University.

Dr. Thibodeaux specializes in strategic management and organization theory. Other areas of research, interest and writing include multinational and multicultural management, work group theory, management education and. She stays active in the community and works as a consultant and trainer with business, public and educational institutions on current issues such as work team development and quality initiatives.

Derrick D'Souza, Associate Dean for Graduate Programs

Dr. Derrick D'Souza serves as a professor in management and as the Associate Dean for Graduate Programs. He has been with UNT since 1989 and was previously a corporate consultant for business in a variety of industries.

His expertise includes new project identifications, techno-economic feasibilities, asset revaluations, technology transfer and strategic alliances. D'Souza continuously publishes in the areas of organizational architecture, strategy and operations management as well as teaching courses in business policy, strategic management, international business, and operations management.

Cengiz Capan, Assistant Dean for Operations

Mr. Capan serves as Associate Dean of Operations, a lecturer in the information technology & decision sciences department, and the director of the College of Business Administration Computing Center. He has worked at UNT since 1980 and previously worked for the City of Denton.

Mr. Capan specializes in information resource management, technology planning and computer-aided software engineering. He has been instrumental in keeping the College of Business Administration on the forefront of technological changes through his judicious use of money and resources.
