Gibson D. Lewis Health Science Library is committed to excellence in providing access to the world's medical literature. Our mission is to support the education, research, patient-care, and community service goals of the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth. A significant part of our mission is to also serve the information needs of alumni of all parts of UNTHSC. As explained in our Lewis Library for Alumni web pages, we offer a variety of services to our alums.
One of the ways the library maintains quality service is to always evaluate our product and make plans for the future. In 2003 and 2004, Lewis Library conducted an extensive strategic planning process with the goal of identifying a road map for future growth. "Library Task Force: The Next Generation Health Sciences Library," investigated the broad areas of collections, services, and space. With the help of noted library consultant Lou Weatherbee, the Task Force made the specific recommendations shown below. With the guidance of the Task Force Final Report, hard-working library staff have made significant progress toward achieving these goals.
The Task Force made the following recommendations in priority order.
- Strengthen collections
- Renovate library technology platform
- Reallocate and repurpose space
- Create a Library Liaison Program
- Modernize skill base of library staff and faculty
- Develop a strategic plan for Information Resources
