UNT Libraries Newsletter Fall 2006 Stories in the newsletter include: World War II outreach program to high school students, interview with Dr. Ken Lavender, the Heyer bequest to the Music Library, UNT Libraries' grant to preserve historic materials, Interviews with Michelle Mears and Annie Downey, and the Rare Book Room starts celebration of their 25th anniversary. Bowker's Books in Print with Reviews The Fiction Connection is a new feature recently added to Bowker's Books in Print. It can be accessed by selecting Bowker's Books in Print and scrolling down the search page. Readers can use it to browse titles by topic, genre, setting, character, location, and timeframe. It can also be used to identify titles similar to your favorite books. (04/06)

UNT Libraries Newsletter Spring 2006 Articles in the newsletter include the Artist Book Exhibition, how to put a librarian in your online course, streaming audio from the Music Library, online reference services, and the ever popular 'whatever happened to...' story. (2/06)

We now have online (as well as print) access to 231 Journals offered through Taylor & Francis Publishers. The journals that we can access are identified by a pair of eyeglasses to the left of the journal title. A mixture of social science and science with a few humanities titles thrown in; this is a diverse collection that will enhance our electronic resources. Be sure to sign up for SARA the alerting service. (11/05)

Banned Books Week-The UNT Libraries has a new webpage Banned Books to bring awareness about censorship. Click on the link to find out about the most challenged books and the most censored books. (10/05)

UNT Libraries Newsletter Fall 2005 This edition has stories about the new Internet workshops, undergraduate checkout at the Media Library, interviews with Tara Carlisle and Annie Downey, the Music Library's online rare book room, assistance with Electronic Resources, the Rare Book Room recovery from mold,  and news from Research Park Library and the Dallas campus library. Library Service Quality Survey (LibQUAL)- The UNT Libraries would like to thank the 560 students, faculty and staff who participated in this survey to help us identify strengths and areas needing improvement in our library services, collections and facilities. The survey data is an important input into the new strategic plan being developed for the Libraries. You can visit our LibQUAL Results web page for an overview of your assessment of our performance. New Electronic Resources:
Gale Virtual Reference Library- The UNT Libraries now have electronic access to several reference books in the humanities, social sciences, and science and technology via the Gale Virtual Reference Library. The interface allows for full text searching as well as for searching by document title or keyword. Content can be displayed in pdf or html format. Individual titles are also accessible through the online catalog and the electronic resources ebooks menu.

The SAGE Journals Online database indexes over 220 journals from ten different Full-Text Collections. The SAGE Full-Text Collections include Communication Studies, Criminology, Education, Management & Organization Studies, Materials Science, Health Sciences, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Urban Studies & Planning. The UNT Libraries provides full-text access to approximately 165 of the available journals in the Full-Text Collections. Articles and journals not available online can be requested through Interlibrary Loan or purchased from SAGE. The Chronicle of Higher Education is now available in full text directly from the publisher. Full access to all content (including Chronicle Careers and The Chronicle Review) is available from 1989 to the current issue. Full search and browse functions are available; you get everything but the ads! This subscription is not listed in the Electronic Resources (A&I) section, but is listed in both the Library Catalog and the Electronic Resources (Journals) section under the title. Please take advantage of this resource! (1/06)

Ulrichsweb Needing to identify serial publications in your field? Ulrichsweb is the place to go. It provides a wealth of information on publications from throughout the world, including information on where they are indexed. In many cases, you will find direct links to full text UNT subscriptions, impact factors, and reviews. (1/06)

Access World News is an exciting addition to the UNT Libraries' Electronic Resources. This database provides full-text information from over 600 U.S. and over 700 international news sources. It includes newspapers, newsmagazines, news wires, and transcripts. To learn more about Access World News and how to use it, click here.  (11/05)

Philosopher's Index is the most thorough index of journal literature in philosophy. It is a bibliographic database with informative, author-written abstracts covering scholarly research in all areas of philosophy. The literature covered goes back to 1940 and includes journal articles, books, book chapters such as contributions to an anthology, and book reviews. (11/05)

Cambridge Journals Online is a collection of full-text journals from the Cambridge University Press providing online access to nearly 200 of the world's leading journals spanning the humanities, social sciences and sciences.  The archives range from as far back as 1989 to only the current year (though 1997-current is the most common date range).  Articles can be displayed in HTML or PDF formats.  Some titles in the list do NOT indicate UNT has full-text access (), but check individual titles to verify access since the icon is inconsistent, at best. Vanderbilt Television News Archive Database locates and provides detailed abstracts of material in the collection of the Vanderbilt University's Television News Archive, the world's most extensive and complete archive of television news. This database allows you to find out the content of major U.S. national news broadcasts from ABC, CBS, NBC, and CNN, and more than 9,000 hours of special news-related programming including ABC's Nightline since 1989. In addition, it provides access to streaming, online video of CNN broadcasts from 1999 to the present. (10/05)

UNT now has access to the three major journals from the Electrochemical Society, Electrochemical and Solid State Letters (vol 1 to current), Journal of the Electrochemical Society (1998 to current), and Interface (1998 to current, with some articles from earlier years).

UNT also has current access to all the online journals published by Hindawi, either through regular subcriptions or as free, "open archive" titles. For earlier years, the full text may be available as well. Hindawi publishes primarily mathematics journals with several titles in telecommunications, engineering, and medicine.

Project Euclid Prime Collection offers full text access to 25 mathematics journals from various publishers, offered through a cooperative project sponsored by Cornell University. Coverage varies by title, but some journals go back as far as 1995 to present. Look for an identifying P or O to the left of the journal title. Those with an S are not yet available for UNT users.

Science Online provides direct access to Science, the online version of the weekly print journal; Science Express, a preprint service with selected hot Science papers weeks or even months before their print publication; ScienceNOW, AAAS's online daily news service; and other tools to support professional development and research endeavors. UNT has had access to earlier volumes and issues of Science from JSTOR. With the Science Online package, we now have full text coverage from volume 1, 1880, to the current issue. The easiest way to find the online version of Science is to use the Electronic Resources web page, select E-Journals, and type in Science. (09/05)
