Most rail commuters know how this works. You are waiting for a train on the platform and when it pulls up it is bursting with people and there’s little room to stand let alone find a seat.
This is particularly bad for anyone travelling between London Euston and Crewe at 16:36. According to the Department for Transport, it is the most overcrowded train service in the country with 414 passengers on a train meant for 206 - that’s 201% capacity.
Every single train on the list travels into or out of London, including Bedford to Brighton which travels through the capital.
The figures above are from Spring 2013 but the government also released data for Autumn 2013. Gwyn Topham wrote about that collection here.
