Jean-Claude Juncker unveiled the composition of the new European Commission yesterday. Here is a visual look at which country got which portfolio, and how the subdivision of roles between EU member states has evolved over time*.

For a country with a population of just over 520,000 people, Luxembourg sure seems to be handed the presidency quite often. France whose GDP has been flat this year gets the economic brief, while fiscally prudent Germany hasn’t received the budget portfolio in a decade. Britain’s Lord Hill of Oareford was handed the financial services portfolio, while Germany takes charge of the digital economy brief.

*as the number, and name of portfolios, has evolved over the years, we have aimed to group these as best as possible into relevant categories.
