The US Navy launched a major military relief operation following the earthquake and tsunami that knocked out the reactors at the Fukushima nuclear plant in March 2011.

Around 100 sailors say they and their families stationed in Japan were exposed to dangerous levels of radiation and are suing electricity company Tepco for $1bn in a California court. Some have illnesses that cannot be explained, but the US Navy and medical experts say radiation levels were too low to harm those involved
