Karin N. Calvo-Goller, the author of The Trial Proceedings of the International Criminal Court, is suing the author of a negative review of her book, on the grounds that it “may cause harm to my professional reputation and academic promotion.”
If her book had been rejected by the publisher, one wonders if she would have sued the peer reviewers on the same grounds. Anonymity would be little protection: see Gadja’s The Trials of Academe.
Incidentally, on Amazon her book currently has 5 five-star reviews, and 38 one-star reviews . . . many of the negative reviews cite the lawsuit. As others have pointed out, the lawsuit may be damaging her reputation more than any review could have.
