What is Informatics?

Biomedical informatics (BMI) is the interdisciplinary, scientific field that studies and pursues the effective uses of biomedical data, information, and knowledge for scientific inquiry, problem solving and decision making, motivated by efforts to improve human health.

  • Introduction to Biomedical and Health Informatics

    The course begins on December 3, 2014

    The goal of the OHSU 10x10 course is to provide a detailed overview of biomedical and health informatics to those who will work at the interface of healthcare and information technology (IT).

  • Interprofessional Health Informatics Course

    The course begins on October 6, 2014.

    This course is directed to both a generic overview of nursing and health informatics and the specific application of information and communication technologies in the clinical area.

  • Survey Course of The Field of Health Informatics

    The course begins on September 15th!

    This web-based course provides a broad survey of health informatics focused on five themes: health informatics foundations; clinical decision support; human/organizational factors/public health/consumer health informatics and current issues in health informatics including best practices.

  • This course will begin on August 29, 2014

    This web-based, e-learning course provides an overview on the topic of IT in healthcare delivery and the focus is on IT’s role in improving the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare delivery.  

  • Biomedical informatics (BMI) at Arizona State University focuses on breadth and depth of the field, including concentrations in bioinformatics, imaging informatics, clinical informatics, population health informatics, and knowledge discovery. BMI is now located at the Mayo Clinic campus in Scottsdale, leveraging its well-developed partnership with Mayo Clinic as well as with several other leading health care delivery organizations such as Banner Health, Phoenix Children’s Hospital and St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center.
