Two rain-related sinkholes will continue to impede traffic on major thoroughfares in west Phoenix, street transportation officials said Thursday afternoon.

Road closures put in place after a large sinkhole appeared Wednesday afternoon in the middle of the intersection at 67th Avenue and Osborn Road will hold through the Friday morning commute. Initial estimates had the intersection reopening Thursday morning, but city officials say more time is needed.

While repairs are being made, Osborn Road is closed between 63rd and 67th avenues, and 67th Avenue is closed between Earll Drive and Clarendon Avenues, the transportation department tweeted on Wednesday night.

Meanwhile, road closures for another sinkhole - this one on Thomas Road near the west Phoenix portion of Loop 101 - will remain for another two weeks, officials said.

Thomas Road is closed between 83rd and 91st avenues.

The Phoenix Street Transportation Department is asking motorists to report sinkhole activity by calling 602-262-6441.
