TUCSON — Authorities in Tucson have arrested 16 street gang members who are suspected of homicides, narcotics trafficking, money laundering and firearms trafficking.

Tucson Police Chief Roberto Villasenor says the operation culminated nearly a year of investigation into an ongoing criminal syndicate based and operating in Tucson, but conducting criminal misconduct as far away as Florida and New York.

Villasenor says the investigation involved the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; the Tucson Police Department and the Arizona Department of Public Safety's gang enforcement unit.

More than 200 officers from the agencies served search warrants at nine locations in Tucson and 16 arrest warrants early Wednesday.

All suspects were taken into custody without incident. They ranged in age from 24 to 52.
