If there were a McBrunch, could a massive Egg McMuffin be far behind?
McWhat, McBrunch?
McMaybe.
Hold onto your Egg McMuffins, because McDonald's may not be getting ready to introduce McBrunch.
The troubled fast food giant has filed a federal trademark registration for the term "McBrunch," company spokeswoman Lisa McComb confirmed to USA Today.
But before you begin salivating over the idea of a new Egg McMufffin variation, McDonald's McComb won't say whether brunch is on the menu.
"That sort of speculation is highly premature," she said in an e-mail. At the moment, she said, McDonald's isn't testing any McBrunch concept.
Scott Hume, editor of Burger Business, said McDonald's declining sales may be pointing it in the brunch direction.
McDonald's just notched its worst global monthly same-store sales in a decade — down 3.7% for the month of August.
A common fast-food practice is to offer new food ideas during different times of day to get more business, according to USA Today. Thus, the idea of late-night snacks or perhaps mid-morning brunches.
Humes made several McBrunch McMenu ideas, including:
• Massive McMuffin. Two sausage patties, bacon, egg, cheese and ketchup on an English muffin, now sold in New Zealand.
• McMuffin Fresh Chicken. Breaded chicken, spicy cheese, lettuce, tomatoes and sauce on toasted muffin, now sold in Germany.
• McMorning. Pork patties, potato fritters, bacon, cheddar cheese, tomato, lettuce and sauce, now sold in Croatia.
