Broader Impacts Grab Bag

No, that’s not a commentary on the National Science Board’s proposed new Broader Impacts Criterion — which some might describe as including a grab bag of ‘national needs’!

I’m referring instead to the fact that lots of folks have commented publicly about the proposed new criteria. We’ve already posted about some of them individually, but I thought it would be good to collect everything we know about in one spot — the grab bag.

So, here are links:

Dan Sarewitz published an opinion piece in Nature, and Roger Pielke, Jr. blogged about it here. Daryl Chubin blogged about it here.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science has posted its response to the proposed criteria here.

Carol Lynn Alpert of NISE-net and the Boston Museum of Science offers this commentary.

And CSID Director Bob Frodeman and I published a couple of responses here in Science, which was mentioned in Physics Today here by Steven T. Corneliussen, and here in Science Progress.

I’ll be adding more as I find them, so check back for updates. And if you want to drop me a line to let me know about something else, please contact me at britt.holbrook@unt.edu.
