Leadership Programs at NIU

Student Involvement & Leadership Development coordinates a series of comprehensive leadership development programs to help prepare students for leadership roles in our community and around the world. The programs are anchored in NIU's commitment to the community, region, and world. They include the multi-tiered NIU Leadership Academy, the NIU LEAD Summit, and the annual Kevin D. Knight Leadership Awards Ceremony.

Kevin D. Knight Leadership Awards Ceremony

To recognize the contributions of students to the NIU and DeKalb community, institutional tuition waivers and a variety of other leadership awards are offered and presented at the annual Kevin D. Knight Leadership Awards Ceremony every spring. The 2015 Kevin D. Knight Leadership Awards Ceremony will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2015.

NIU Leadership Academy

The Leadership Academy is a comprehensive leadership development program primarily based on Kouzes and Posner's book "The Leadership Challenge" (2007). This leadership program combines theoretical and practical leadership experiences to create an interactive learning environment for student leaders. What makes NIU's Leadership Academy unique is its combination of curricular (classroom based) and co-curricular (outside the classroom) learning experiences.
