Professor Tracey Deutsch joins us from the Department of History. We are excited to have her serve as the Director of Undergraduate Studies in GWSS!
We warmly welcome both Aren Aizura and Annie Hill to the Department of Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies.
Annie Hill earned a Ph.D. in Rhetoric from the University of California in Berkeley. Her research and teaching focuses on rhetorical theory and criticism, feminist theory, and race theory, including geneaologies of Western race science. She also has a background in socio-legal scholarship, and is interested in legal rhetoric, modern jurisprudence, and public policy.
She is currently working on a book titled "This Modern Day Slavery: Sex Trafficking in the United Kingdom", which analyzes the discourse and development of British anti-trafficking campaigns. Annie recently won the Multicultural Research Award from the Institute for Diversity, Equity, and Advocacy.
We congratulate you for your paper on "Argentine Literary Resistance to Paternal Dominance as informed by Reich and Lacan." Wonderful job!

Mali Collins recently received the GWSS Social Justice AWard. Mali plans to use the award to pursue her career in writing and publishing. This award gives her inspiration to continue to unearth and address social justice issues affecting women and families of color.
Jordyn Lehmann received the GWSS Helen Hawthorne Hartung Award. This is a $500 award to a student submitting an outstanding GWSS-related paper or creative project.
We were saddened to hear that Doris Marquit passed away on May 29th, 2014 after a brief illness. Doris received her PhD in 1978 and taught frequently in the Departments of GWSS and English at the University of Minnesota. She was a long-standing member of the Communist Party, the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, and the DFL. A strong advocate for social justice, community organizing, and liberatory education, she was passionate about intersectional and materialist feminism, dedicated to GWSS, and established the Women's Studies Social Justice Fund for undergraduate students. Her warmth, sense of humor, and sharp mind will be greatly missed. In her honor, you can donate to the Women's Studies Social Justice Fund.
As we conclude celebrating our 40th Anniversary, the Department of Gender, Women and Sexuality Studies honors Kate Millet. Read more in CLA's REACH Magazine.
