The Center for Economic Development and Research at the University of North Texas was established in 1989 to conduct economic analysis and public policy research and also to provide forecasting and strategic planning services to businesses, governments and non-profit agencies with an interest in economic development. Dr. Terrance L. Pohlen (Director of the Center for Logistics Education & Research, a part of the UNT College of Business) is currently serving as Interim Director. The Center participates in the ACCRA Cost of Living Index (COLI) published by the Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER). More information about C2ER can be found at www.c2er.org
Three times per year, Center researchers gather prices in Denton for specific items such as housing, utilities, and groceries. C2ER compiles the data from all participating urban areas to to prepare the cost of living index for participating areas. C2ER also provides a calculator that allows users to reasonably compare the cost of living between areas.
