VIllainous One Million Moms Tries To Ruin Marvel’s Gay Super-Hero Wedding
We already told you how the two major comic-book publishers, Marvel and DC, both have big gay events coming in June: DC announced a beloved iconic character is coming out of the closet during Pride month, while Marvel has started the publicity machine for the wedding of the X-Men’s Northstar and his longtime boyfriend, Kyle.
Now, like the Legion of Doom, One Million Moms has surfaced from the swamp to ruin everyone’s fun. A message on the One Million Moms (OMM) website reads:
“Children desire to be just like superheroes. Children mimic superhero actions and even dress up in costumes to resemble these characters as much as possible. Can you imagine little boys saying, ‘I want a boyfriend or husband like X-Men?’ This is ridiculous! Why do adult gay men need comic superheroes as role models? They don’t but do want to indoctrate [sic] impressionable young minds by placing these gay characters on pedestals in a positive light.
These companies are heavily influencing our youth by using children’s superheroes to desensitize and brainwash them in thinking that a gay lifestyle choice is normal and desirable. As Christians, we know that homosexuality is a sin (Romans 1:26-27).
Unfortunately, children are now being exposed to homosexuality at an early age. Comic books would be one of the last places a parent would expect their child to be confronted with homosexual topics that are too complicated for them to understand.
Children do not know what straight, homosexual, or coming out of the closet even means, but DC Comics and Marvel are using superheroes to confuse them on this topic to raise questions and awareness of an alternative lifestyle choice. These companies are prompting a premature discussion on sexual orientation.”
Well, even if you accept that comic books are just there to provide role models (hardly, they’re more escapist literature than anything else), the average age of a comics reader is 35. Not exactly the “little boy” OMM seems so obsessed with.
OMM is urging both Marvel and DC to cancel all plans for gay characters immediately: “Ask them to do the right thing and reverse their decision to have sexual orientation displayed to readers.”
As retaliation, we’re asking that you go out and buy both an issue of Astonishing X-Men #51 and whatever comic DC rolls out its gay character in. (Click here to find a comics shop in your area.) Heck, buy two copies of each and give one to some impressionable little boy.

Also, One Hundred Moms seems to be forgetting about the little gay kids out there. When I was 12 years old and struggling with my feelings that I knew weren’t “normal”, I could have used a few gay role models, even in a comic book.

Without sounding like a nerd, anyone who has ever read any of Marvel’s comics, especially the X-Men series will know that Stan Lee and the rest of the crew have always strived to carry a strong equality message in their storylines. Fundamentally the X-Men have always wanted everybody to get along. I read these comics from a young age and in my childhood I though it related to race and gender, now at 27, whilst no longer reading these comics its amazing to hear that Marvel are sticking by their guns to best reflect the world as it is today within the pages of their product.
When I was a kid there where no gay superheroes but that didn’t stop me becoming one! ;)

The Million Moms need to get educated. The audience for this particular comic is adults. Many straight women like to read stories where two men are in gay relationships (Kirk/Spock, for example) and that’s been going on for decades. There are gay characters in all kinds of media and have been for years. The Million Moms should be celebrating a stable relationship like this one, whether straight or gay, because there aren’t that many examples anymore — most of the celebrities on TV and in movies have wrecked relationships like a trail of dead bodies behind them (yes, a vague generalization, but that’s what they’re giving us, why not give it back). Any true “superhero” — gay or straight or alien or otherwise — is a better role model because they’re altruistic enough to use their abilities to help people. Villains are more likely to spread hate and dissent — such as, the rhetoric coming from the Million Moms.

Why do homophobes assume that all conversations with children include discriptions of gay sex. A simple age appropriate conversation is suffice. My sister told my 5 year-old nephew like this:
Sister…”Some boys have boyfriends and some girls have girlfriends.”
Nephew…”Like who?”

Just like X-Men, beause X-men are just one dude, they don’t even know whoi he is getting married, fuck off. Comics taught me, in and out of the pages, that everyone is different and everyone must be respected, Hell, it’s even the fundamental stone of the X-men franchise, spiderman, almost every superhero. What the comics teach us, is perseverance, everone ahs to fight for the right to be equal.
Even if Marvel and DC back down ( wich they won’t, most of the industry and their long time readers look foward to this, and even complain about these reactions, is it has appeard on the view, it would just be another issue where one of the main chararecters get engaged) The teaching of no discrimination, respect the one that is different, is the core of X-men, is the Core of superman, it the core of the industry.

Well at least One Million Moms didn’t also complain about the two comic book characters in the picture above being an interracial couple. I guess that represents progress of sorts from the 1950s and earlier – assuming it wasn’t a case of them not noticing because they were so upset about it being a same-sex couple.
BTW, anyone know the KKK’s position on this? Do they get more upset about race than sexual orientation or vice versa, or is it a tie? With multiple prejudices, it’s kind of hard to remember how each group of bigots rank-orders them.

Thank you Shannon, for what must surely have been difficult comment to write. I must admit however that I had some difficulty in understanding your argument. Were you yelling while you wrote this? I assume that is why you typed everything in capital letters when capital letters really aren’t all that necessary except at for proper nouns and to begin sentences. On that note you seem to have difficulty understanding when you should utilize periods and commas in order to effectively communicate your thoughts. Again, I’m going to assume that this is because of the intensity of your feelings on this subject, and not because you have no proper concept of punctuation or grammar.
I did however very much like the way that you referred to white people as “minorities.” The way that you used quotation marks to denote the fact that white people, while technically a worldwide minority, have also historically occupied a position of power and privilege, especially in America, was genius. I hope you’ll indulge me in a few questions though. Firstly, I must ask where you found the data that supports your assertion that black is the most popular race on the planet. Is there some racial popularity contest which I am not aware of? If so, is said contest owned by Donald Trump? If you meant “populous” rather than popular, then I believe there are several billion Asian people that might beg to differ. Next question. Near the end of your comment you bravely assert that “YOU ARE THE NOES THAT DO NOT” Assuming you meant “ones” rather than “noes,” what do we, the white homosexuals of the world, “not”? As a white homosexual, I’m quite concerned about exactly what it is that I’m lacking that is apparently causing everyone to turn against me.

Funny. The only group I see actively indoctrinating children would be christians…I believe it’s generally referred to as “Sunday School,” not to mention bible studies and youth groups. Also, last time I checked, christianity doesn’t exist in nature, and is a lifestyle choice. Finally, according to their own so-called holy texts, women should just be silent (1-Timothy 2:12)

Romans is a false teaching. Jesus’greatest teaching was LOVE for all; He taught that only God has the right to Judge. He warned us about false prophets and the writer of Romans is one of those because it is anti Jesus. I am always surprised when the anti gay quote this and Leviticus as if the writers of these were greater or had more understanding of God’s wishes than Jesus,who is considered the last prophet, the Son of God, as a manifestation of God (the Trinity for the Catholics) and the Messiah.

The X-Men are so cool and as someone else said, they have always represented the disenfranchised and done it in a very cool way. Can’t wait to see the Honeymoon Issue, to see what the dried up scrags will say about that.
