GeeKon 2014 Schedule

Below is the schedule for GeeKon 2014.  As more events and details get added we will add them to the schedule.  We at the GeeKon Record are super excited as this event is growing

Saturday February 22nd

Mini A-Kon VII – Denton Civic Center and The Emily Fowler Central Library, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

We will have all the great things we always have at Mini A-Kon, like gaming, great guests, fun panels, amazing artists, but now we will have even more.  Because of all the great support (and XP) from all our fans, we now are larger and better than before.  It will be at the Emily Fowler Central Library and the Denton Civic Center.  That’s right we need a convention hall and a library to bring you all the crazy stuff for Mini A-Kon this time.  We will be adding things like a full dealers room, more panels, more cosplay, and we’re working on adding stuff until the day of.

Mini A-Kon After Party: Reaper Game Store 9062 Teasley Lane, Denton, Texas 76210; 6pm till Midnight

Come join us at the Reaper Game Store for the amazing Mini A-Kon After Party, where we’re throwing a mini DFW Nerd Night style charity party. There will be plenty of board and card gaming for a great cause. Just because Mini A-Kon ends doesn’t mean the fun does!

Pokemon X and Y: Doubles Tournament, Business Leadership Building lobby at 6 pm

People can bring their 3DS and X/Y game and compete in a doubles tournament that closely resembles this year’s Pokemon competitive season for X and Y.

Sunday February 23rd

Pokemon Stadium 2 Tournament, West Hall lobby at 6 pm

People can bring Pokemon from their Gold/Silver/Crystal versions or use the Pokemon registered in Pokemon Stadium 2 to compete in the Pokemon Stadium 2 tournament

Cosplay Dance Party-Honors Hall, 7pm-9pm

Come dressed up and dance the night away.

Monday February 24th

Pokemon Stadium 2: Mini-Game Tournament, West Hall lobby at 6 pm

People can come in and participate in a Pokemon Stadium 2 mini-game tournament. They don’t have to provide any of their equipment.

Mu Epsilon Kappa presents Wolf Children Anime Film Screening – Willis Library Forum, 6-8pm

Film will be free to anyone who wishes to attend no pre registration to attend.

Hunger Games:Disney Couples Edition-Crumley Hall Living Room, 6:00- 8:00pm

Who would survive in the Hunger Games arena Belle and Beast or would it be Aladdin and Jasmine?  Come and decide who would ultimately win.

Star Trek Bridge Simulator-Bruce Concert Hall, 6-9pm

We are calling all Captains to the bridge your ship needs you.  Weather it be an angry hostile rebel leader or a full on Borg attack your leadership skills will be tested completely as you attempt to save the day.

Tuesday February 25th

Media Library film showing: White Scripts – Willis Library Forum (Rm 140)- 4:00pm to 5:00pm

A documentary on representations of Black masculinity in comic books; a popular culture genre which existed before television and whose reach extends into other areas of cultural production such as movies and animated TV series. In a serious, lively and humorous manner, the film examines the degree to which some of the first Black superheroes generally adhered to and were burdened by stereotypes about Black men.

UNT’s Willis Library is located one block east of Highland Street and Avenue C at 1506 W. Highland St. Parking is available in the Highland Street Garage located at 620 Central Ave.

Pokemon Battle Revolution: Doubles Tournament in West Hall lobby at 6 pm

Diamond/Pearl/Platinum/Heartgold/Soulsilver and compete in a Pokemon Battle Revolution doubles tournament.

Geek Girl Panel-Bruce Hall Lobby, 6pm-8pm

This will be our first Annual Geek Girl Panel exploring the intersection of gender and all things geeky! Panelists will be from around campus student, staff member and faculty. Here what they have to say about being a girl and also being a geek.

GeeKon Author Faire – Denton Public Library – North Branch, 6 – 9 p.m.

Meet and mingle with 10 talented, local-based authors as the North Branch Library and A-Kon® team up to present the GeeKon Author Faire, Tuesday, February 25, from 6 – 9 p.m. Learn what it takes to write, publish and sell your work from published authors living in your own backyard. Talk with them about inspiration, the writing process and purchase an autographed copy of their work.

Wednesday February 26th

Mu Epsilon Kappa presents Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator – Willis Library Forum (rm 140) – 4-9pm

Teams of six take the roles of the bridge crew of the Artemis, a ship on a mission to explore space and interact with other entities, both friendly and hostile. Captain, Communications, Science, Helm, Tactical, and Engineering stations are available in our Star Trek themed game, so form a crew of your friends or just join our crew on your own to play!

Comic Book Madness- Bruce Concert Hall, 6pm-8pm

Who would really be able to beat everyone in a unified comics world?  Do you think your super hero could destroy them all?  Then come prove it in a March Madness style bracket to decide the true champion.

Professional Lady Geek Panel- Honors Hall, 6pm-8pm

This version of our Geek Girl Panel will be exploring the intersection of gender and all things geeky while being a professional! Panelists will be from  staff members and faculty. Here what they have to say about being a girl and also being a geek.

Thursday February 27th

Tribe One, Adam WarRock, and Urizen Concert-Auditorium on UNTs Campus

Doors open at 7:30PM Concert starts at 8:00PM

For one night only UNT will be hosting some of Nerdcore’s finest heroes.  Weather it be the Geek Rap from Tribe One or Adam Warrock or the space ship rock of Urizen we are sure that you will be completely rocked.

Friday February 28th

Cinderella Project- Denton Wesley Center, 4pm -8pm

Come pick out your prom dress! We have hundreds to choose from and seamstresses on site to make sure you get a perfect fit. The best part? Fairy Godmother’s don’t use money, so you get to take home the perfect dress for free.

Pokemon Stadium Tournament in West Hall lobby at 6 pm

People can bring their Pokemon from Red/Blue/Yellow or use the Pokemon registered in Pokemon Stadium to compete in the Pokemon Stadium Tournament.

UNT Quiz Bowl 2014-BLB Room 015 and 070 4-8PM

Student Activities and Alpha Chi are hosting UNT’s 2nd Annual Quiz Bowl tournament on the evening of February 28th and during the day of March 1st. In this tournament, UNT student teams will have the opportunity to compete in a question and answer game of general knowledge and quick recall. Game questions cover a range of topics from history and science to sports and popular culture. The winning team will receive $200 in prizes.

You’re Not Smart Enough to Win This Game-Honors Hall Common Room, 7pm-8PM

Come over to Honors Hall to prove us wrong, we think no one is smart enough to win this Game.

Mu Epsilon Kappa presents Formal Gaming Night – Willis Library Forum, 6pm-12pm

Dress to the nines and come out to join us in a classy celebration of gaming! Available games include console gaming on PS4/Xbox 360, board games, card games, and whatever else you feel like bringing to play! Bring your 3DS and streetpass with us! Formal/semi-formal dress is highly encouraged but not required to participate.

Saturday March 1st

Comic Studies Conference  Denton, TX from 10am-6pm

Debuting in 2011, the UNT Comics Studies Conference focuses on interdisciplinary approaches to graphic narrative or sequential arts and welcomes competitive paper submissions to participate in panel discussions and roundtable sessions exploring the critical and educational applications of comics or graphic novels.

Media Library film showing: Wonder Women –Willis Library Forum (rm 140) – 5:00pm to 6:00pm
