Governmental Affairs

The primary role of Governmental Affairs is to advocate on behalf of Michigan State University by building and promoting positive relationships with federal, state, and local policymakers and stakeholders to ensure legislative funding and policy initiatives reflect the needs of the university. Legislative and funding priorities are coordinated through the Office of the President.

As external liaison for one of the top 100 research universities in the world, Governmental Affairs is committed to connecting world-class expertise to policy makers at all levels of government, aiding in their work to enhance Michigan’s economic vitality and quality of life. MSU EXTENSION

MSU Extension makes life better for Michigan residents by bringing the vast knowledge resources of MSU directly to individuals, communities, and businesses. Located in all Michigan counties, MSU Extension provides tools to grow Michigan’s agriculture economy, help citizens do their jobs better, raise healthy and safe families, build their communities, and empower their children to succeed.
Facility for Rare Isotope Beams

The Department of Energy selected MSU to establish the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB), a $730 million on-campus facility that will advance understanding of rare nuclear isotopes and the evolution of the cosmos as it provides research opportunities for scientists and students from around the globe. Operated by MSU, FRIB will be funded by the Department of Energy Office of Science (DOE-SC), MSU, and the State of Michigan.
UNIVERSITY RESEARCH CORRIDOR

The University Research Corridor (URC) is an alliance between Michigan State University, the University of Michigan, and Wayne State University to transform, strengthen, and diversify the state’s economy. The universities formed this alliance to spotlight the vital role these three universities have played, and will play, in revitalizing the state’s economy.
BUSINESS LEADERS FOR MICHIGAN

As a member and partner of Business Leaders for Michigan (BLM), MSU is developing strategy, raising awareness, advocating policy, and championing initiatives to grow the state’s economy. This organization is composed of chairpersons, CEOs, or most senior executives of the state’s largest job providers and universities.
