2014 International Open Access Week theme: Generation Open
The 2014 International Open Access Week, held annually in October, has announced this year’s theme to be “Generation Open.” The Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) will be hosting a free, one-hour webcast to help kickoff planning for this year’s events: Monday, May 19th, 1:30 CST.

Dr. Peter Binfield Announced as the 2014 Keynote Speaker
Today we are announcing our keynote speaker for the 2014 Open Access Symposium. Dr. Peter Binfield has worked in the academic publishing world for almost 20 years. He is currently co-founder and publisher at PeerJ. Since gaining his PhD in Optic Physics, he has held positions at Institute of Physics, Kluwer Academic, Springer, SAGE and most recently the Public Library of Science (PLoS).
UNT Scholarly Works is the Libraries' Newest Digital Open Access Collection
The UNT Scholarly Works Collection provides global access to the UNT Community's research, creative and scholarly output. Articles, papers, artwork, music, research data, reports, presentations and more are all available to the public. This open access collection enables the UNT community to share their knowledge and expertise with a worldwide audience. It is continuously growing as more faculty members submit their works to be added to the collection.
UNT Faculty Senate Approves Open Access Policy
On March 9, 2011, the UNT Faculty Senate voted overwhelmingly to support the UNT Policy on Open Access to Scholarly Works. Work on the policy began in 2010 with the establishment of an Open Access Policy Committee. The Committee developed drafts of the policy document, revised with input from faculty members, Faculty Senators, external reviewers, and others.
