1) Educate students, faculty, and the DFW community about the religion, cultures, and historical experiences of the Jewish people.
2) Promote Jewish and Israel studies in the Dallas-Fort Worth region.
3) Foster ties between UNT and Jewish institutions in the DFW area, throughout the United States, and in Israel.
4) Increase original scholarship by students and faculty on Jewish and Israel subjects.
The UNT Jewish and Israel Studies Program is the only Jewish and Israel Studies program at a public university in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and one of only eight such programs in the U.S. UNT is the largest university in the North Texas region, with more than 36,000 students and more Jewish students than all other Dallas-Fort Worth universities combined. Our program includes 47 courses on Jews and Judaism across seven of UNT's colleges taught by 26 faculty in nine departments. 13 of the program's courses are on the state of Israel.
The Jewish and Israel Studies Program offers multiple scholarships from seven endowments and programs. We offer a minor in Jewish and Israel Studies and plans to establish a M.A. in Jewish and Israel Studies in the future. We also house a library of about 2,000 books and 300 films.
