Getting Started With Research & Innovation

The office for Research & Innovation promotes excellence in research and graduate education at the University of Oregon — the state’s only Association of American Universities member. Research, both basic and applied, is fundamental to the mission of the University and is essential to Oregon’s economic and civic vitality. The office enhances research through the following research services divisions:

  • Research Development Services provides a variety of services for faculty seeking support for research, performance, public service and scholarly projects.
  • Sponsored Projects Services works with the UO community to provide proposal budget preparation, institutional clearances and grant and contract administration.
  • Research Compliance Services supports and protects the interest of the University, faculty, staff, students and research subjects in research compliance matters.
  • Innovation Partnership Services partners with UO innovators, the public, and industry to accelerate the adoption of innovations derived from UO research and education.

The Office for Research & Innovation provides administrative and financial support for sponsored programs, including identification of funding opportunities, proposal submission, research compliance, and contracts and grant administration. The office supports numerous graduate programs and interdisciplinary research centers and emboldens innovation and economic development through strategic partnering and technology transfer. The UO has a long tradition of interdisciplinary research that continues with the recently opened Lewis Integrative Science Building, a facility that is producing new knowledge and innovative solutions to society’s grand challenges.
