Agency Overview:

Houston Arts Alliance (HAA) is a non-profit organization that was created to promote the arts in the City of Houston and the greater Houston area. The agency manages a more than $9 million budget which includes grants to artists and arts organizations; public art acquisition, project management and collections management; services to arts organizations such as Business Volunteers for the Arts, Free Night of Theatre, Power2give.org, artshound.com, Patron Manager CRM, and an award-winning incubator program; cultural policy research; and arts marketing.

Programs & Services Department and BVA Program Overview:
The Program & Services department of HAA provides relevant programming that help arts organizations and individual artists be effective stewards of their resources.

Business Volunteer for the Arts® (BVA) is a pro bono consulting program for nonprofit arts that connects skilled business professionals with arts organizations in need of high-level business assistance. The program strengthens the partnership between business and the arts and cultural community. BVA is a national program under the leadership and coordination of the Arts & Business Council of Americans for the Arts. Since 1975, thousands of business professionals have shared their expertise in board development, strategic planning, and fundraising and talents on a wide range of consulting projects through BVA.

The BVA program currently exists in 14 cities - the network of BVA organizations strive to help nonprofit arts organizations improve their business practices and provide rewarding opportunities for business professionals who wish to contribute to their community and become involved directly with the arts. BVA helps nonprofit organizations improve management practices and provides high-caliber consulting services that might otherwise be unavailable.

Position Description:
The Program Manager is responsible for providing direct support and coordination for the BVA program. Working under the direction of Programs & Services Director, the Programs Manager’s responsibilities include, but are not limited to, general program implementation including; advancing the program through corporate HR offices and/or community outreach departments; managing business volunteer orientations/training; overseeing program invoicing and reporting; cultivating and conducting corporate presentations; tracking progress; crafting and editing copy for program marketing materials; constituent communication and management for arts clients and volunteers; and engaging in business volunteer outreach and recruitment efforts; special projects including but not limited to: writing and editing copy for program marketing materials; interviewing volunteers and arts clients; spearheading new program initiatives, etc.

Additionally, the BVA Program Manager assists in the planning and execution of business volunteer engagement events including orientation/training sessions, educational programming and volunteer networking/arts/social events.

Qualifications for the successful candidate:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Preference given to candidates with prior experience in the Houston nonprofit arts and for-profit business sectors
• Minimum five years of experience in management, marketing/communications, and/or development in the nonprofit arts
• Volunteer training/coordination; and/or related experience in the corporate sector
• Ability to form and maintain successful relationships with senior business volunteers, panelists, and speakers
• Organizational and data management skills
• Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills
• Client management experience or related experience necessary
• Resourcefulness and strength in creative problem solving
• Strong team player
• Facility with membership database use and analysis
• Flexibility and Self-sufficiency
• Strong customer service skills
• Experience with database data entry and reporting, beyond Microsoft Excel
• Demonstrated competence with PC platform and web; high level of competence with online email marketing software, Microsoft Office Suite, including Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Outlook
• A commitment to advancing the arts in America
