Artist Profile

ETHEL SHIPTON

Artist's Statement
Artist Statement:

In my most recent work I have been focusing on the concept of paths, gateways, and movement in reference to travel and migration. Keeping in mind that wagon trails where later developed into networks of modern superhighways, their purpose has remained relatively unchanged, … to connect individuals, communities, and societies basic goods and services. And in present day our desire for luxuries in addition to basic necessities has created a culture of motion, speed and emotional immediacy which has greatly informed and impacted our physical landscape. But in the end does our true destination simply lie between two points.
