Drawings!: My Favorites From Houston 2012
There has been a lot of excitement about painting in Houston this year, with Aaron Parazette’s In Plain Sight at McClain Gallery and a big exhibition planned for the CAMH’s 65th anniversary. But what about good old drawing? Often more humble and imaginatively evocative than painting, there have been some outstanding drawings shown in Houston this year. My favorite artworks in 2012 have been made simply by putting pencil or pen to paper. Some of H-Town’s most illustrious artists, such as Mark Lombardi and Robyn O’Neil, have pushed drawing in new and exciting directions. It seems that artists are continuing to explore the artistic possibilities of what may be the most ancient form of artmaking. Here are a few highlights of drawings I have seen this past year:
