HIRE DATES: Full Time (Jan-Dec)
REPORTS TO: Executive Director
COMPENSATION: $25,000 (based on experience) yearly salary + Health and Dental Insurance & 401(k) benefits


MISSION/ENVIRONMENT:

The Austin Film Festival furthers the art and craft of filmmaking by inspiring and championing the work of screenwriters, filmmakers, and all artists who use the language of film to tell a story.

While working for this critically recognized organization, applicants are expected to be able to work efficiently and professionally in a fast paced, team-oriented production environment. In such an environment, the ability to work well under pressure, excellent communication skills and intense organizational skills are a must.

OVERALL JOB DESCRIPTION: The Film Department Director maintains administrative and organizational aspects of the film department, and reports directly to the Executive Director. Specifically, this position oversees communication within the film department and with distributors to ensure a successful festival in compliance with the mission statement. The Film Department Director will also help manage the year-round events hosted by the festival, and will work closely in conjunction with the Director of Programming.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: The responsibilities of the Film Department Director include but are not limited to:
• Coordinate and supervise all special events scheduled for all screening venues, including Q&A coordination
• Maintain all financial aspects of the film department, including creating and budgets and keeping them in check
• Track Oscar hopefuls and major releases
• Maintain and further our relationship in the local and national film community
• Work closely with Director of Programming and production managers to accommodate tech issues
• Coordinate travel and transportation for headliner film guests
• Program Marquee/Headliner films
• Maintain communication for festival PR and Marketing positions, including red carpet coordination
• Industry outreach and communication
• Management of film department timeline, goals and technical positions
• Oversee manpower during Festival including Handlers, Theater Managers, Projectionists, and Liaisons
• Oversee all venue and equipment rental and contractual obligations
• Working with all film department staff and volunteers,

Joint responsibilities with the Director of Programming include but are not limited to:
• Manage festival online scheduling such as Festival Genius
• Program and oversee Year-Round Programming
• Develop and maintain a relationship in the local film community
• Manage intern and apprenticeship hiring, training and utilization
• Maintain contact list and relationships with Film Festival Alumni
• Track festival films at other festivals and maintain a relationship with the organization
• Track and screening out of competitions (OOC) non-invites
• Manage income projection for competition and film pass, individual tickets, and filmmaker badges sales.



QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university required
• Extensive knowledge of film, which includes the ability to speak intellectually on the subject
• Experience working with, communicating and leading a team
• Excellent organizational skills
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
• Work off timeline and budget
• Requires some travel and frequent evening meetings
• Attending events both in and out of AFF
• Ability to prioritize and delegate in high stress situations
• Excellent interpersonal skills, which includes development of new relationships
