CITIZEN FILMMAKER COMPETITION
In 1977, through the vision of the internationally acclaimed filmmaker and educator James Blue, with founding director Ed Hugetz and initial financial support of Houston philanthropists John and Dominique de Menil, SWAMP became the first Texas independent nonprofit organization for the "citizen filmmaker."
The Citizen Filmmaker Contest is the opportunity to engage in your community, create a dialogue through videos, and support one another. The rules are simple! Go out and make a video using ONLY a mobile device camera such as a cell phone, iPad. It cannot be solely a camera/video camera because we are celebrating the democratization of film equipment. You can edit the film if you wish or are able to. It can be a documentary, fictional story, or something completely experimental! You have up to 2 minutes to tell a story that is about something important to you that you want to share with your community. Post it to Youtube, Vimeo with the tag "SWAMP Citizen Filmmaker." Email us the link: swamp@swamp.org. Promote your film and have people "like" it to vote. Films must be uploaded by 11:59pm on Sunday, September 16th. Voting ends the following Sunday, September 23rd at 11:59pm. The winner will be announced and the top 3 "liked" films will be selected to screen on SWAMP's website and Youtube Channel. The winning film will screen at MFAH ahead of the Manhattan Short Film Festival on October 5th!
AGREEMENT:
You, the filmmaker, retain ALL rights to the video you create and you have the right to exhibit it without restriction.
You, the filmmaker, agree that SWAMP has the non-exclusive right to exhibit the film, in whole or in part, in perpetuity in any and all media for SWAMP-related activities, programs, and/or promotional material.
You, the filmmaker, assume all responsibility and liability for obtaining any licensing for music or other copyrighted material that appears or is included in your film.
PROHIBITED:
Any pornographic images
Vulgar Language
On-screen violence
Anyone who submits and sends SWAMP the link enters into the contract knowingly and willingly.
