ANNA MEMBRINO

WORKS

BIOGRAPHY

Anna Membrino’s paintings pull the viewer into a lush world of lurid colors and soft forms. Beginning with the observation of molded and shaped candy left to melt and transform, Membrino creates an otherworldly landscape, populated by the occasional miniature animal, evoking surrealist landscape master Max Ernst.

Yet the candy appears more alien, than terrestrial, fleshy and malleable under its own weight. Her loose application of paint gives just enough information to make the forms solid and the space tenable, while her preferred large scale invites closer inspection and surrender to the sticky sweetness.

After receiving a BFA in Art from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Membrino earned an MFA in painting from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. Anna Membrino currently lives and works in Dallas, TX.
