Opening Reception: Friday, November 16, 6 - 8 pm

Artists's Talk: Saturday, November 17, 2 pm

"houstontohouston" literally and figuratively bridges two geographically disparate locations: the artist's studio on Houston Street (pronounced "how-stun") in New York and DiverseWorks' new gallery space in the heart of Houston. The title's playful and poetic riff causes a double-take, as does Evans' installation itself with its repeated, replicated, and recombined elements that blur the boundaries between originality and facsimile, beginning and end. Comprised of painting, sculpture, photography, collage, text, and sound, houstontohouston features real and reproduced elements from the artist's studio, remnants from past site-specific installations, and new works, many of which were created on-site.

Born in 1967 in Reno, NV, Evans has exhibited his work at MoMA/PS1, El Museo del Barrio, The Drawing Center, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, and the Weatherspoon Art Museum, among other notable venues. His stage designs have appeared at the New Museum, the Kitchen, ICA Boston, and others. Evans' project for DiverseWorks, his largest installation to date, is his first major institutional commission in the United States.
