On Saturday, June 13, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., The Art Guys married a live oak tree in a public ceremony. The ceremony was conducted in the Lillie and Hugh Roy Cullen Sculpture Garden of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston with a reception that immediately followed at the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston. Approximately 600 people attended the event. The Art Guys Marry A Plant was sponsored and presented by the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston as part of the exhibition "No Zoning: Artists Engage Houston," May 8 - October 4, 2009.

The Tree Dedication Ceremony for The Art Guys Marry A Plant

The Menil Collection


On Saturday, November 19, 2011, a public ceremony as held at The Menil Collection to dedicate the planting of the live oak tree from The Art Guys Marry A Plant . The tree was planted on the grounds of The Menil Collection on March 29, 2011 and was formally accepted into the permanent collection on June 2, 2011 as a gift from The Art Guys. "The Tree Dedication Ceremony of The Art Guys Marry A Plant" included speakers Toby Kamps, Menil curator of modern and contemporary art, Lawrence Weschler, writer and Director of the New York Institute of the Humanities, and James Surls, artist. The tree is located in Menil Park on the grounds of the Menil Collection just southwest of the Rothko Chapel.
