Muse
New Works by Aralyn McGregor Opening Reception Thurs 6/21, 8-11pm On Display 6/21-9/19/2012 “I know that I’m not good at reading poetry. For a long time, I found it too intimidating or just obsolete. Whenever I compare my interpretation with the expert analysis, I’m almost always completely off. I never seem to make all the correct connections and insights on my own. All the same, I find that Plath’s poems are full of incredibly beautiful metaphors and juxtapositions. What comes to mind while reading her work is vivid enough to want to put it down on canvas. Whether or not it’s “correct” doesn’t really matter. They’re not meant to be illustrations. Ideally, the paintings stand by themselves, without titles or explanation. However, most people want the story behind the art, so I thought I’d make the process visible for this show. This is how I find inspiration. Poetry is my muse.” –Aralyn McGregor PurchaseJoin the listArtist SubmissionsSee What's Next at the Magnolia Gallery |
