New elevated station facility at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station

A ski-equipped Hercules (LC-130) airplane takes off from the South Pole skiway near the new elevated station building at Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station. This station, the third that the United States has built at the geographic South Pole since 1956, will be dedicated in January 2008. (NSF/USAP photo by Glenn Grant, Raytheon Polar Services Center.)
