Ms. Lippiatt began at NIST as an Economics intern in the Office of Applied Economics (OAE) in 1977, while an undergraduate. She then worked summers in the OAE until earning her bachelor's degree, and again as an Economics Co-op student while earning her master's degree at American University. She has been working in the OAE ever since. Ms. Lippiatt's major interest is in developing economic decision methods and tools, primarily for efficiently designing and managing buildings. She has applied these decision tools to a wide variety of building problems, including selecting cost-effective, environmentally-friendly building products, rating buildings by historic significance, measuring productivity impacts of design decisions, identifying cost-effective fire safety strategies, and selecting cost-effective energy and water conservation methods. Other applications of her decision methods include evaluating police patrol vehicle disposal, evaluating health care impacts of cigarettes, and selecting automated manufacturing equipment. |
