Secretary of State Hillary Clinton visited Kinshasa in the DR Congo on Monday, August 10. She visited the Biamba Marie Mutumbo Hospital, held a town hall meeting with 140 university students, and attended a state dinner hosted by the Prime Minister. She then went on to Goma on August 11.

Refugee Camps Visited
Embassy POL Officer, Steve Kenoyer, and State Population, Refugees and Migration (PRM) Desk Officer Wendy Henning visited the Congolese refugee camps of Kala and Mwange in northeast Zambia on June 12-13. Then they accompanied a convoy of 511 returning Congolese refugees up Lake Tanganyika aboard the commercial boat S.S. Liemba.

First Mark Twain Award Winner Announced
The first winner of the monthly Mark Twain literary contest was announced on Wednesday, July 1. Honore Kitenge was awarded $500 for his story “Chronique d’une Chance.” Four semi-finalists were also honored.DCM Sam Brock made the announcement at a lively reception held at PAO Katya Thomas’ residence.
