MDC strives to offer career development and advancement opportunities to all of our team members in an effort to provide an enriching and rewarding career.  As a Corrections Officer, there are many options for growth laterally in your career as well as opportunities for those who desire upward mobility into management positions.
 
Through a variety of specialized assignments at our facility, our Corrections Officers have many opportunities to expand their horizons.  Some of these assignments include:
 
  • Community Custody Program (CCP)
  • Corrections Emergency Response and Tactical Team (CERT)
  • Security Threat Group (STG)
  • Inmate Transportation
  • Training and Recruitment
  • ACA and Compliance
  • Identification Officer
  • Field Training Officer
  • Instructor
  • Bilingual Officer
 
In addition to these lateral growth opportunities, MDC offers many opportunities for those looking to take on the additional duties and responsibilities of our management team.  Potential promotional opportunities include:
 
Sergeant:
  • Eligible to apply after completion of the probationary period with four (4) years of experience OR any combination of education and/or experience in criminal justice, corrections security totaling four (4) years.
Lieutenant:
  • Eligible to apply after the completion of the probationary period with a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field OR any combination of post-secondary education and/or experience in criminal justice, corrections security or a related field totaling five (5) years with at least one (1) year served as in the rank of Sergeant at MDC.
Captain:
  • Eligible to apply with two (2) years of experience as a Lieutenant with MDC plus eight (8) years of corrections experience and an Associate’s Degree in a related field or post secondary education equivalent to 60 semester hours OR any combination of post secondary education and/or experience in corrections totaling ten (10) years with two (2) years experience as a Lieutenant at MDC.
