New York Aster
Aster novi-belgii

Asters are useful for late summer and early fall flowering. Aster can get to be 3-5 feet tall but pinching can help maintain a more compact plant. Pinch the plants once or twice in the spring and early summer to keep them compact. Do not pinch after June 15. Asters perform best in full sun and in well drained soils of average fertility. Cultivars to look for include 'Alice Haslam', 'Crimson Brocade', 'Snow Flurry' and 'White Lady'.

Zones 4-8
