SVS >> Heat Island

Movie ID Title
A flyby of Atlanta showing thermal imagery taken during the night by an airborne ATLAS instrument on May 11 and 12, 1997. This imagery is surrounded by Landsat Thematic Mapper data taken on June 27, 1998. 1053 Zoom and Spin Around Atlanta: Nighttime Thermal View of the Heat Island
A flyby of Atlanta showing thermal imagery taken during the day by an airborne ATLAS instrument on May 11 and 12, 1997. This imagery is surrounded by Landsat Thematic Mapper data taken on June 27, 1998. 1052 Zoom and Spin Around Atlanta: Daytime Thermal View of the Heat Island
A flyby of Atlanta showing visible imagery taken by an airborne ATLAS instrument on May 11 and 12, 1997. This imagery is surrounded by Landsat Thematic Mapper data taken on June 27, 1998. 1051 Zoom and Spin around Atlanta: True Color
A flyby of Atlanta showing visible imagery, daytime thermal data, and nighttime thermal data taken by an airborne ATLAS instrument on May 11 and 12, 1997. This imagery is surrounded by Landsat Thematic Mapper data taken on June 27, 1998. The flyby is followed by a timelapse of land use in the region from 1973 to 1997 from Landsat data and a sequence of GOES imagery showing cloud and thunderstorm formation over the Atlanta heat island. 1049 3D Atlanta Heat Island
The animation shows how, in the days leading up to March 14, 2008, pockets of rain fell between drought-ravaged areas that saw no rain, setting up boundaries of dry and moist air. These boundaries along with urban-rural land cover boundaries produce circulations and rising air similar to a sea breeze. They may also serve as localized regions of enhancement for existing storms or initiation of new storms. Modeling studies suggest that these boundaries may have been a factor in the storms that produced the Atlanta tornado. 10402 Rain, Drought, Urbanization Contributing Factors for Storms
This is the standard definition version of the Urban Rainfall Effect on Coastal Cities animation MPEG. 10013 Urban Rainfall Effect on Coastal Cities
