The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A strong earthquake occurred about 135 km (85 miles) SSW of Sibolga, Sumatra, Indonesia at 11:05 PM MDT, May 13, 2005 (May 14 at 12:05 PM local time in Indonesia). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. No reports of damage or casualties have been received at this time; however, this earthquake may have caused damage due to its location and size.

Felt (V) at Padang and Sibolga; (III) at Palembang and Pekanbaru, Sumatra. Felt (III) in Malaysia. Felt on Nias and in Singapore.
