Original Caption Released with Image: This image is a single frame from a computer animation, which begins with a global view of the planet Mars created from Mars Global Surveyor, Mars Orbiter Camera, wide angle images. In the animation the ODYSSEY spacecraft is displayed above a series of globes, where color is used to emphasize the Martian topographic, andesite, and basalt compositional differences. A global view of Earth introduces a comparison of the difference in resolution between the current MGS TES and planned ODYSSEY THEMIS observations.
