The State and Local Government Finances contain statistics on revenue, expenditure, debt, and assets (cash and security holdings) for governments. There are statistics for the 50 state areas and the District of Columbia, as well as a National summary. Statistics also are available by type and level of government -- state, local, and state plus local aggregates, as well as aggregates for counties, municipalities, towns, special districts, and school districts. For 2002, county-area totals are also available. Populations in the viewable and spreadsheet files are from the 2000 decennial census.
