browser. I am trying to promote health literacy here at the hospital. I
bought the health Literacy toolkit from AMA. It has a DVD, CD and manual.
The DVD is a series of interviews with people of low literacy skills. I
have introduced it to our patient Ed committee and it will be shown to all new medical

literacy (see the IOM web site). In addition the American Medical Association
publishes a book on health literacy (Eds Schwartzberg et al) and recently
published a report on the NAAL health literacy measures (Sheida White). Another
good book is “Advancing Health Literacy” by Zarcadoolas, Pleasant
and Greer (2005). The National Institute for Literacy also just produced a
webcast on Health literacy that might be useful and is accessible on their web
