Janet:
Thank you for introducing the math concept. Recently when some of the 
materials produced for the grant were reviewed for readability,  reviewers 
had no problem with the concept of 101o F to convey fever; they did 
however feel that the concept of 25% or 50% chance to convey probability 
or inheritance was overly complicated. Does anyone have suggestions for 
conveying risk or probability. Specifically, the concept to be 
communicated is  - With each pregnancy, there is a 25% chance that your 
child will have disease, or a 50% chance of being a carrier.

One of the things missing in many of these definitions, and the thing that 
really sets health literacy apart from other literacy issues, is the 
integration of math concepts.

This is a good question and not an easy one to answer.  I work in adult 
education and ESL, so my colleagues understand more or less what I mean 
when 
I say 'health literacy.'.  When I talk to other people, I realize that I 
don't say 'health literacy.'  I say 'nutrition education' or 'health 
education.'  What do other people say?
