<DIV>Let me send this on to the larger site. Here in Southeastern Texas we at
the Gulf Coast Outreach and Assistance Program who are responsible for the
dissemination of information and application assistance of state services
available to the poor and working poor, eg: CHIP (Children's Health Insurance
Program), Medicaid, CHIP Perinatal Program, the Women;s Health Program, TANF
(Temporary Assistance for Needy Families), Food Stamps and Long Term Care for
the Aged and Disabled. We work with the schools through a program called
Communities in Schools (CIS) and through something called Teen Parenting. We go
out to the schools when they have Parent Teachers nights, PTO meetings
and classes with teens who are pregnant and may be in need of services that
we offer application assistance with. We speak to the parents who have
children and no access to health insurance and to teens who are in need of
services. In this way we reach children, youth and families about services that
are available to them and application assistance as needed. </DIV>

adults. But wouldn't it be nice if people learned necessary health
literacy skills BEFORE they were adults? So, I was wondering if
anyone was working on health literacy among elementary, junior high or high
school students? How are you approaching health literacy?
Through existing health classes or by integrating health literacy education
into math or
