AIHce 2010 Call for Presentations

When my son asked me to home school him for high school, I suddenly found myself in a position with a steep learning curve ahead. I later realized that if I could tackle a 1000+ page college level World History text, then there’s lots of other things I could accomplish.

Elizabeth Pullen, Clariant Corporation

AIHA is now accepting presentation proposals for the AIHce 2010, May 22–27, in Denver, Colorado.

Submissions must be made electronically at www.aihce2010.org by October 5, 2009.

AIHce 2010 is seeking potential presenters to kick off this year’s theme of “New Frontiers in Science and Practice” and provide fresh, dynamic solutions to today’s challenges — new standards and regulations, technological innovations, international security issues, and expanding practice areas.

David Michaels—President's Choice to Lead OSHA

 Application Submission Deadline

The White House says President Barack Obama plans to nominate an epidemiologist to head the government's workplace safety agency.

The White House on Tuesday said David Michaels, PhD, MPH, is the president's choice to lead the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The position also makes him an assistant secretary in the Labor Department.

Michaels is a professor at The George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services. He previously worked in the Clinton administration, focusing on the health of workers and neighbors of nuclear weapons facilities.

The OSHA position requires Senate confirmation. AIHA is pleased that the administration has moved ahead with this nomination and looks forward to working with the new leader of OSHA.

Analytical Accreditation Board (AAB) and Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) applications are once again being accepted for 3 year terms beginning January 1, 2010.  The deadline for submission is Friday, September 18, 2009. Representatives of academic, government, and/or commercial laboratories are welcome.  Applications are available on the AIHA-LAP, LLC website under the Governance section.  Contact Margie Breida, Senior Manager, Operations, AIHA Laboratory Accreditation Programs, LLC at (703) 846-0713 or mbreida@aiha.org.
