Where to Find Data

where to find dataThis page includes data for coastal resource managers related to climate change research, mapping and GIS, monitoring, climate scenarios, and climate modeling.

Climate Data and Modeling

Global Climate Observing System (GCOS)Exit EPA Disclaimer
Headquartered at the World Meteorological Organization in Geneva, Switzerland, GCOS provides data, reports, and event listings related to monitoring the climate system; detecting and attributing climate change; assessing impacts of, and supporting adaptation to climate variability and change; application to national economic development; and research to support modeling and prediction of the climate system.

National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), Climate Monitoring
The NCDC monitoring section includes U.S. and global reports, research, maps, datasets, and indices related to climate monitoring.

NCDC GIS Portal
The NCDC GIS Portal includes a range of climatic datasets and provides an entry point to the NCDC Data Discovery Map, which allows users to search regions, states, cities, places, and zip codes for climatological data, surface data, radar imagery, and other data products.

North American Regional Climate Change Assessment Program (NARCCAP)Exit EPA Disclaimer
NARCCAP is an international program serving the high resolution climate scenario needs of the United States, Canada, and northern Mexico, using regional climate models, coupled global climate models, and time-slice experiments.

Ecosystem and Water Quality Data

EPA STORET Surface and Ground Water Monitoring Data
STORET is EPA's main repository of water quality monitoring data. STORET contains raw biological, chemical, and physical data on surface and ground water collected by federal, state, and local agencies, Indian tribes, volunteer groups, academics, and others.

Regional Ecosystems Data Portal
This map-based catalogue of government and non-government environmental datasets provides data on physical resources, water quality, sediment quality, and marine resources.

Water Quality Assessment and Total Maximum Daily Loads Information
The Assessment Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Tracking and Implementation System (ATTAINS) provides information reported by the states to EPA about the conditions in their surface waters. This information is required every two years under Clean Water Act.

Sea Level Rise and Topographic/Elevational Data

EPA’s Sea Level Rise Publications Archive
An archive of sea level rise reports and topical summaries, including nationwide impacts, beach erosion, floods, estimates of future sea level rise, and coastal wetlands.

LIDAR Data Retrieval Tool (LDART) – Topographic Change Mapping
LDART allows users to customize their output data set, choosing geographic boundaries, projections, horizontal and vertical datums, and output file formats. LDART can be used by coastal managers, coastal geologists, and the public to generate custom elevation data sets for use in decision making, research, and for general information.

National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC) – Bathymetry and Topography
This site provides a variety of products and resources, including coastal relief digital elevation models, bathymetric maps, and satellite-derived data.

U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)-National Park Service (NPS)-National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Experimental Advanced Airborne Research Lidar Data
The USGS-NASA Airborne LIDAR Processing System (ALPS) enables the creation of sub-aerial topographic maps for use in ecological models and environmental stewardship. A web-based interface allows access to PDF maps, metadata, and GIS data layers. The published data products are also available for visualization and download in Google Earth.

USGS Center for LIDAR Information Coordination and Knowledge
This site is a USGS resource center for LIDAR, containing a community bulletin board, data viewer, and links to other LIDAR resources.
