Ann, I am interested in the responses you receive. Here in Texas, we are
currently responding to state legislation and strategic planning requiring
us to identify VESL curricula that are responsive to targeted industry
sectors here in Texas. One of these sectors is health care. Your questions
are excellent. I hope you will share the info you gather. Barbara Tondre,
Austin, TX

Hello to all -- I'm updating my research on programs for ELLs in the health
care industry and have a few questions for the group.

1) Who offers English for health care employees?

2) Who do these programs target -- job seekers, newly-hired employees, or
seasoned employees? What criteria is used to identify good candidates?

3) Are programs generally job-specific or general?

4) What is the typical program length? Are any self-paced?

5) What is the outcome of the program-- certificate, job placement in
target areas, other?

6) Are there any great success stories you have heard of regarding training
ELL health-care workers?

7) Have you noticed any specific needs that are not being met by current
programs?

8) What curricula is used? Any inclusion of computer-based training?

Thanks for assistance. You can reply directly to me at
agillespie@prolinguanashville.com or to the group.

Ann
