The pictured archipelago is the Republic of Fiji. Its first national park, the Sigatoka Sand Dunes, was designated in July 1989. Fiji gained independence from the United Kingdom on October 10, 1970. The Garden of the Sleeping Giant on the main island of Viti Levu includes many species of orchids, water lilies, and tropical plants.
