A good model to look at is Watsonville/Aptos Adult Education http://waas.pvusd.net/ . This school partnered with the WIB, ROP, the local community college and another adult school to create a two-tiered VESL/Health curriculum. ELLs have moved through the two levels and successfully entered vocational classes such as CNA, HHA, CMA and Pharmacy Tech and entered the workforce. What criteria is used to identify good candidates? 3) Are programs generally job-specific or general? 4) What is the typical program length? Are any self-paced? 5) What is the outcome of the program-- certificate, job placement in target areas, other? 6) Are there any great success stories you have heard of regarding training ELL health-care workers? 7) Have you noticed any specific needs that are not being met by current programs? 8) What curricula is used? Any inclusion of computer-based training? Thanks for assistance. You can reply directly to me at agillespie@prolinguanashville.com or to the group.
