Congressman Platts Elected to Sophomore Class Leadership Post

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Todd Platts (PA-19) was re-elected this week to the House Policy Committee by his fellow second-term House Republican Members as the Sophomore Class Representative to the Committee. Platts was first elected to the Policy Committee in November 2000 as the Freshman Class Representative to the Committee.

"I am honored to have been selected by my colleagues to again serve as their representative on the Policy Committee," Platts said. "I look forward to continuing to serve with Policy Committee Chairman Chris Cox (R-CA) and the other members of the Committee in helping to set the policy agenda for the 108th Congress."

The Policy Committee position is one of two Sophomore Class leadership posts voted on by Platts and his fellow second-term Republican members. The other position is the Sophomore Class Representative to the Steering Committee.

The Policy Committee is the policy-making arm of the House Republican Conference. The Committee is comprised of the elected House Leadership (Speaker Hastert, Majority Leader DeLay, Majority Whip Blunt, Conference Chairman Pryce, Policy Chairman Cox, Conference Vice Chairman Kingston, Conference Secretary Doolittle, NRCC Chairman Reynolds, and the elected leaders of the Sophomore and Freshman Classes), the Chairmen of key standing committees of the full House, and Members elected by region and seniority.

Policy Committee Chairman Cox has stated, "Our policy course is clear: individual freedom and responsibility; limited government; less red tape and bureaucracy; lower taxes; and a compassionate conservatism."
