Learning the Value of Public Service

 

Washington, D.C. - Six area college students are spending their summer learning about the duties and responsibilities of public service through 10-week internships with Congressman Todd Platts (PA-19).  Coordinated by the 19th District Internship Association's annual program, the six outstanding students were selected based on their academic merits and their community commitment. Each intern spends half of their internship in Washington, D.C. assisting with legislative projects and half assisting with constituent casework in one of the Congressman's district offices in Carlisle, Gettysburg, and York.

The summer 2005 interns are William Alleman, Jr., a graduate of Central York High School and a senior at Dickinson College, and son of William and Judy Alleman of York; Jarrod Baker, a graduate of Christian School of York and a senior at the University of Pittsburgh, and son of Timothy and Nedra Baker of York; Melissa Colpo, a graduate of Carlisle High School and a senior at Penn State, and daughter of Michael and Vera Colpo of Carlisle;  Brianna Linehan, a graduate of Shippensburg Area Senior High School and a junior at Albright College, and daughter of Peter and Sheri Linehan of Shippensburg; Thomas Kramer, a graduate of West York High School and a senior at Gettysburg College, and son of William and Jackie Kramer of York; and Emily Miller, a graduate of West Springfield High School and a sophomore at George Mason University, and daughter of DeWolfe and Charlotte Miller of York.
